Hatco has made esters for over 60
years in our state of the art facilities at Fords, New Jersey.
Hatco has over 80
unique esters in its product line, each with its own unique set
of characteristics and nuances which are not always evident to
those not long experienced in ester chemistry.
For various reasons,
many of our clients find it best to define their performance
expectations for a synthetic lubricant and let Hatco select,
blend, or even custom design a new ester tailored to meet those
expectations. This approach allows you to create the ideal ester
by defining its intended function, rather than trying to pick an
ester from a chart of physical properties alone.
Naturally it's not
always possible to satisfy every target as some performance
characteristics work against others, such as biodegradability
and hydrolytic stability. This is why prioritizing is so
important. By understanding the relative importance you place on
each property we can balance the ester to best fit the
application. Please resist the temptation to assign a top
priority to all of the performance characteristics as this will
only defeat the purpose of the worksheet!
In addition to
prioritizing the properties, specific target values are helpful
as well as any flexibility that may exist with each. We would
also like to understand as much as possible about the operating
environment the lubricant will be exposed to such as temperature
cycles, drain intervals, materials of construction, etc. In
short, the more you can tell us about the application and your
expectations for the ester, the better and more quickly we can
meet them.
